I wanted to dedicate this week's article to a slightly different topic. Legal terminology and current events can sometimes seem overwhelming or tedious. But in reality, law is present in every aspect of our lives; it regulates our relationships and habits.

We all remember the closure of dervish lodges and religious foundations, especially from our history lessons. But did you know that the law regarding the abolition of these practices is still in effect and continues to be violated by many people today, often without their knowledge?

Law No. 677 dated 30/11/1925 concerning the Closure of Dervish Lodges, Monasteries and Tombs, and the Abolition of Tomb Guardianship and Certain Titles With the law of 1925, dervish lodges and religious foundations were closed. In addition to these, the aforementioned law also included the closure of positions such as sheikh, vizier, murid, dede, sayyid, celebi, baba, emir, nakip, and caliph., fortune telling, witchcraft, exorcism, and predicting the future. And to fulfill one's desires Such actions are also prohibited. The law explicitly stipulates that those who engage in these prohibited activities will be sentenced to imprisonment for a period of no less than three months, as well as a fine. This law is still in effect.

There are numerous local court and Supreme Court rulings on this matter; and although these rules are frequently violated, it is clear that those who commit these acts may face punishment as a result of a potential criminal investigation.

For example, in one of its decisions, the Supreme Court of Appeals ruled that a person known in society as a "healer" would take money from clients by claiming to cure them through reading, blowing, and performing magic. Clients would seek this person to find a way to have children. The fake healer would first tell the clients that they were under a spell and warn them of what might happen to them. He would then tell the clients and their children that they were under a spell and that their fate would be dire, claiming he could end this by performing injections, using medicines, applying ointments, and similar things for money. In this case, the court found that the client had committed the crime of aggravated fraud by exploiting religious beliefs and feelings in a chain of events, and also violated the relevant article of Law No. 677 on the Closure of Dervish Lodges, Shrines, and the Prohibition and Abolition of Certain Titles and Positions.

Whatever you do, don't stray from science and common sense. But even if it seems unlikely, if you find yourself in a situation where you can't afford it, or if you decide to engage in such activities, be aware that there are consequences.
