Passenger Rights in Case of Flight Cancellation

Air travel has become an indispensable part of our lives. However, encountering various problems during this process is now commonplace. Knowing your rights in the event of delays or flight cancellations will undoubtedly make things much easier for you.

Passenger Rights in Case of Flight Cancellation: In the event of a flight cancellation, the airline operating the flight has the following rights:;

  • Refund: For the part or parts of the journey that were not undertaken, and for the part or parts of the journey that were completed if it is no longer meaningful for the passenger to complete the planned journey, The full ticket price will be refunded within seven days at the latest; in addition, a free return flight will be provided to enable the passenger to return to their point of origin as soon as possible.,
  •  Route Change: Under similar transport conditions, a route change to the final destination should be arranged at the earliest opportunity.,
  • Date Change: Depending on seat availability, the route may be changed to a later date at the final destination, under similar transportation conditions, as deemed appropriate by the passenger.
  • Alternative Transportation Proposal: Where a city or region is served by more than one airport, if the airline operating the flight offers passengers with confirmed bookings a flight to an alternative airport, the airline operating the flight shall..., Covering the cost of transferring the passenger from that alternative airport to the airport where the reservation was made, or to another nearby destination agreed upon by the passenger.,

  • Right to Accommodation: In cases where the route is changed and the expected departure time of the new flight is one or more days after the scheduled departure time of the cancelled flight; in cases where one or more nights' accommodation becomes necessary, or where additional accommodation is required for the passenger, accommodation in a hotel or suitable lodging facility and transportation between the airport and the lodging place (hotel or similar) should be provided.,
  • Obligation to Provide Information on Alternative Transportation Methods: When passengers are informed of a cancellation, the airline operating the flight is obligated to inform them of possible alternative transportation options.

Favicon If the delay is at least five hours, and the uncompleted portion(s) of the journey, or the portion(s) completed, are no longer worthwhile, the full ticket price will be refunded within seven days at the latest, either in cash or via electronic bank transfer, bank payment orders, bank checks, or, with the passenger's signed agreement, in the form of travel vouchers and/or other services; furthermore, a free return flight will be provided to enable the passenger to return to their initial point of departure at the earliest opportunity.

Passengers' Right to Compensation

In case of flight cancellation

From the passengers' scheduled departure time;

  • at least two weeks in advance unless they are notified of the cancellation,
  • two weeks to seven days before Unless they are notified of the cancellation, or offered a route change that allows them to depart no more than two hours before their scheduled departure time and arrive at their final destination no more than four hours after their scheduled arrival time,
  • They were not notified of the cancellation less than seven days in advance. Unless a route change is offered that allows them to depart no more than one hour before the scheduled departure time and arrive at their final destination no more than two hours after the scheduled arrival time, the airline operating the flight... Calculation of Compensation Amount for Domestic Flights

Determining Compensation Amounts for International Flights

When calculating the Turkish Lira equivalent of compensation claims, the Turkish Central Bank's foreign exchange selling rate on the day the ticket was purchased, i.e., the day payment for the ticket was made, will be used as the basis.
