Turkish citizenship is acquired by birth; Turkish citizenship is acquired automatically based on lineage or place of birth. Citizenship acquired by birth is effective from the moment of birth.
Citizenship Acquired Based on Blood Relations:
Citizenship acquired through lineage refers to a child acquiring the citizenship of their Turkish citizen parent at the time of birth. For the acquisition of Turkish citizenship through lineage, it is sufficient for one parent to be a Turkish citizen at the time of birth; the fact that the other parent is a citizen of a foreign country does not prevent the child from acquiring Turkish citizenship.
Birth-related notifications made after reaching the age of majority:
The registration in the family registry of individuals residing abroad who have reached the age of eighteen but whose birth has not been reported is possible only if, as a result of an investigation conducted by the Ministry, it is determined that they acquired Turkish citizenship through their Turkish citizen mother or father.

- If one of the parents is a citizen of a foreign country, the applicant must provide a duly certified document proving their identity, along with proof of identity for the foreign parent.
- Notarized Turkish translations of duly certified documents determining whether or not a person acquired citizenship of that state through their father.,
- Signed statements from the applicant's parents, or siblings if one of them is deceased, indicating their relationship to the applicant, must be obtained from the application authorities.,
- If the applicant's parents are deceased, the applicant's siblings and third-degree relatives, if any, should be notified to the relevant authorities, specifying their degree of relationship.

Application authority and procedure
- Applications are made in person or with a special power of attorney authorizing the exercise of this right, to the governor's office of the place of residence within the country, and to diplomatic missions abroad.
- Applications submitted by post will not be accepted.
- Applications for citizenship by minors or those lacking the capacity to make reasoned decisions must be submitted by their parents or guardians.
- The application date is considered to be the date on which the applicant's form is registered by the application authority.
- The authentication of official documents issued by foreign authorities is handled by the Population Services.
- The implementation is carried out in accordance with Article 59 of the Regulation.
- Foreign nationals wishing to acquire Turkish citizenship only need to submit Turkish translations and notarized copies of documents such as diplomas and passports issued by foreign authorities during the application process.
- In cases where deemed necessary, the authenticity of residence permits can also be certified by the provincial directorates.
