Someone looking for a 'false witness' would go to this coffee shop, make an agreement with someone, and bring them to court. The man entered the coffee shop, and while he was looking around, someone immediately approached him; 'Can I help you? What's the problem?' 'A debt case,' the man said. 'That scoundrel still hasn't paid you your money, has he?' The man, somewhat hesitantly, said, 'The money is being demanded from me, I'm the debtor.' The other immediately retorted: 'How many times will you pay, sir, how many times will you pay?'\u2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

"Perjury," or as it is more commonly known in everyday life, "false testimony," is regulated in Article 272 of the Turkish Penal Code. Perjury falls under the category of crimes against the judiciary, and the reason for this is obstruction of the administration of justice. The penalty for perjury is increased considering the severity of the crime and its impact on the person testifying against them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The crime of perjury can be committed in two different ways. A perjurer may commit this crime by making false statements, lying, or denying the truth, or by concealing some or all of their knowledge about the event when questioned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The penalty for perjury;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2013 Anyone who testifies falsely before an authorized person or body in an investigation initiated due to the basic form of the crime in question or an unlawful act shall be sentenced to imprisonment for a period of four months to one year.
\u2013 If perjury is committed in court or before a person or body legally authorized to hear witnesses under oath, the punishment for this crime is imprisonment for one to three years.
\u2013 If the subject of the investigation or trial warrants a prison sentence of more than three years, then a prison sentence of two to four years shall be imposed.
\u2013 If the person against whom the false testimony was given has already been subjected to a judicial or administrative sanction other than imprisonment, the person who gave the false testimony shall be punished with imprisonment for a period of three to seven years.
\u2013 If the person against whom the testimony was given has been subject to measures such as detention or arrest, the penalty shall be increased by half.
\u2013 If the person against whom the testimony was given is sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment or life imprisonment, the sentence shall be imprisonment for a period of twenty to thirty years.
If the person against whom the false testimony was given is detained or arrested, and provided that they are acquitted on the grounds that they did not commit the alleged act, the person who gave the false testimony may also be punished according to the provisions relating to the crime of depriving a person of their liberty.
It should be added that if a person is sentenced to more than one year in prison for perjury, this will also prevent them from becoming a public official.
Furthermore, the person who gave perjured testimony against them may later file a lawsuit against the perjurer for moral damages, seeking compensation for their emotional harm.
Whatever you do, uphold your sense of justice and conscience; do not commit or facilitate this crime, which carries extremely high penalties and causes irreversible harm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
